Fiber optic calculators for splicers and techs
Free tools for the numbers you need on the job: which tube a fiber is in, whether a link will light, what a splice really lost. Built for a phone in a bucket truck, and they keep working with no signal once you have opened them.
Calculators
- Fiber optic color code chart and lookupTube and fiber color for any fiber number, with the full TIA-598 chart.
- Fiber loss budget calculatorLink loss from length, connectors and splices, checked against the optic's power budget.
- PON splitter loss calculatorODN loss with cascaded splitters, checked against GPON and XGS-PON classes.
- Bidirectional splice loss calculatorAverage A→B and B→A OTDR shots and flag every splice over spec.
- dBm to mW converterTwo-way optical power conversion, plus the loss between two meter readings.
- Fiber bend radius calculatorMinimum bend radius from cable OD, pulling and at rest, plus G.657 fiber limits.
- Fiber optic conduit fill calculatorPercent fill for PVC, HDPE and EMT, and when NEC limits apply to fiber.
Charts and guides
- 144 fiber color code chartEvery fiber 1 to 144 with tube and fiber color. Prints on one page.
- 288 fiber color code chartEvery fiber 1 to 288 with tube and fiber color. Prints on one page.
- Fiber loss per km, and how much loss is acceptableAttenuation by fiber type and wavelength, and what an acceptable link loss looks like.
- Fiber optic connector typesSC, LC, ST, FC and MPO by shape, ferrule and color code.
- APC vs UPC connectorsThe 8° angle, return loss, and why green never meets blue.
How these tools are built
Fiber Field Kit is built by Fiber Optic Services 4U, a fiber splicing and construction contractor in Milton, Pennsylvania. Every calculator shows its formula and a worked example, labels which figures are standard limits and which are typical readings, and names where each default comes from: TIA-568.3 for loss limits, TIA-598 for the color code, ITU-T G.984 and G.9807 for PON classes, and the NEC for conduit fill. Results update as you type, and the address bar keeps your inputs, so you can bookmark a calculation or text it to the next crew.
Use it offline
Open the site once with signal and every calculator is saved on your phone. Add it to your home screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen on iPhone; the menu, then Install app on Android) and it opens like an app, even in a vault or at the end of a rural route with no bars.
